Radiologic Technology Program

The Radiologic Technologist plays an important role in the ever-expanding field of health services. Radiography is the art and science of using radiation to provide images of the tissues, organs, bones and vessels that comprise the human body. The technologist works with the guidance of a radiologist (a licensed doctor of medicine specializing in the use of x-ray and radioisotopes for diagnosis or therapeutic purposes in medicine). The Radiologic Technologist has a function of performing x-ray examinations on patients in various stages of health and disease. Radiographs are needed on patients who have sustained an injury. Many diseases associated with all human health systems are confirmed by means of x-rays.

There are a variety of responsibilities that a radiographer undertakes from nursing skills to darkroom techniques. Clerical work and utilization of computer skills are also a part of most jobs. Sanford's School of Radiologic Technology is designed to be completed in 24 months. Students completing the 24-month program of Radiologic Technology will be given a certificate of completion and an engraved gold pin from the school. Completion of the program qualifies the student to take the examination for certification by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists. This certification gives you nationally recognized credentials to practice radiography. In addition, several states require a licensure examination. If you are interested in a challenging and exciting career, radiology is that profession!

Clinical Laboratory Science/Medical Technology Program

The Sanford USD Medical Center Medical Technology Program is committed to providing didactic and practical instruction, which will allow our students to acquire the knowledge, skills and attitudes necessary to attain a high level of competency in the practice of clinical laboratory science. The Medical Technology Program is one of several educational programs at Sanford. It is accredited by the National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Sciences.

The majority of students enrolled in the program are college seniors on affiliation from their respective colleges to complete the requirements for the Medical Technology/Clinical Laboratory Science degree. Other students are those who have obtained a baccalaureate degree prior to entry. Graduates of this program are eligible to take national certifying examinations, including those of the National Certification Agency (NCA) for Medical Laboratory Personnel and/or the American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP) Board of Registry. If you are interested in a challenging and exciting career, medical technology is that profession!

ATTENTION: Prospective Medical Technology Students

Application for admissions to any hospital-based Medical Technology Program listed on the enclosed sheet is made through the Committee on Medical Technology Education. Included with this letter are the forms to be completed for application. A resume is encourages but not required.

NOTE: Deadline stated on the application form is October 1. Applications postmarked after October 1 will not be considered. Application must have a GPA of at least 2.80 to be considered for evaluation.
